Wrestler of the Week

 

 

Week 8 - Nick Vines of Wantagh

This week’s LIWA wrestler of the week is senior Nick Vines of Wantagh. In Wantagh's run to become the Nassau Dual Meet Champion Nick had 5 victories coming on 3 pins and two decisions with the final decision a 3-1 a sudden victory over MacArthur's Sal Randazzo to help his team to the championship.

 

Week 7 - Evan Mayer of Comsewogue

This week’s LIWA wrestler of the week is senior 138lber Evan Mayer of Comsewogue. On Friday, Evan defeated top ranked Jimmy Leach of ESM in overtime in their League V dual.

 

Week 6 - Sean Miller of Connetquot

This week’s LIWA Wrestler of the Week is Sean Miller of Connetquot who went 6-0 for the week with 4 pins, including a pin in the finals of the North Fork Tournament over #2 ranked Anthony Cirillo of Rocky Point.

Week 5 - Travis Passaro of Eastport-South Manor

This week’s LIWA Wrestler of the Week is Travis Passaro of Eastport-South Manor who turned in an awesome performance this past weekend to win his second Eastern States Crown. Seeded #6, he won 2 early round matches, then defeated 2013 NYS Champion, Alex Delacruz. He followed that up by defeating 2X ESC Champion and #13 nationally ranked, Kevin Jack, of Danbury, CT. And in the finals, he bested Mike Knoblauch, of national power Clovis West, CA, 9-5. Knoblauch is currently ranked #19 in the nation by Flo Wrestling.

 

 

Week 4 - Adrian Berry of Uniondale

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week of December 30-January 4 is Uniondale's 132lber Adrian Berry. Adrian just won the Ted Petersen tournament knocking off Huntington's two time county place winner and champ in 2012, Corey Jamison by a score of 3-1. Adrian went 4-0 at the tournament with two pins and he was also named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.

 

Week 3 - James Szymanski of Shoreham-Wading River

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week of December 23-29 is Shoreham-Wading River's 120lber James Szymanski.  James went 8-0 at the Joe Davidson Memorial Duals.  He had 7 pins (6 in first period) and an 8-5 decision over 2013 NYSPHSAA Championship placewinner, Jesse Dellavecchia.  His wrestling in this dual meet tournament helped SWR win the tournament going 8-0 and beating East Islip, Sachem North and Deer Park.

 

Week 2 - Craig Hinrichs of Islip

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week of December 16-22 is Islip's 220lber Craig Hinrichs. Craig defeated Vin Feola, of Walt Whitman by the score of 6-4 in sudden victory at the North Babylon Holiday Tournament.  At the time Feola was the #1 ranked heavyweight in Suffolk.  Feola was 4th in Section 11 last year and a NHSCA All America,  Hinrichs placed 5th last year at 195lbs in the sectional tournament.

 

Week 1 - Sean O'Hagan of Sachem North

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week of December 9-15 is Sean O'Hagan of Sachem North.  Sean pinned Mike D'Angelo of Commack in the finals of the Andrew Peers tournament.  D'Angelo finished second in Suffolk at 120 pounds and fifth in the State and went 40-4 last year, losing only to the Suffolk champ Travis Passaro and state champion Alex Delacruz.
