Last night before a packed house at the Sachem
North Gymnasium, Coach Jack Mahoney's National Wrestling Hall of Fame
plaque was dedicated. His friend, former Lindenhurst coach and
Wrestling Hall of Fame member himself, Paul Brodmerkel, introduced Coach
Mahoney's family and spoke about his love for wrestling and his many years
of coaching. At that time Coach Mahoney's Hall of Fame Plaque was
presented with the intention that it be hung in a prominent location
within Sachem HS.
After the plaque dedication, Issac
Ramaswammy, Sachem East coach and former wrestler for Coach Mahoney,
spoke about all the success stories of former Sachem wrestlers,
Coach Ramaswammy brought the current Sachem North and East head coaches
and assistants out on the mat as a testament to Coach Mahoney's legacy.
At this time the naming of the Sachem wrestling room in Coach Mahoney's
honor was announced and a beautiful engraved wooden sign was unveiled
naming the wrestling room for Coach Jack Mahoney.
At the end of the ceremony two high school
duals were conducted with Sachem North wrestling League 2 foe, Central
Islip, and Sachem East wrestling their League 1 opponent, Commack.
Following the duals a reception for Coach
Mahoney was held at Bruno's in Lake Ronkonkoma.
